Alpha University of Florida (AUF) is the official training system for the Florida Federation of Alpha Chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. AUF is committed to serving the members and chapters of the Florida District in preparation for the changing leadership and service needs of our organization and for the respective communities we serve.
Welcome to the Training Site for Alpha University of Florida
We are in the business of developing leaders for today in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and specifically in the District of Florida. The goal of Alpha University of Florida (AUF) is to build a strong cadre of Alpha men who are prepared to not only lead our fraternity and district into the next century but to lead this country.
Florida Federation’s Basic Goal:
To recruit and train a cadre of brothers within the Florida Federation of Alpha Chapters, Inc. to better administer and expand chapter life and the Florida District.
Our main goals are:
- Provide challenging courses and workshops for members.
- Engage members in meaningful dialogue and solution driven results to meet changing needs.
- Invite new and better strategies, workshops, and venues to challenge and train the membership.
Rationale and Intent for the Establishment of the Alpha University of Florida
In keeping with the spirit of the national Alpha University, the following rationale shall apply to the brotherhood of the Florida Federation of Alpha Chapters, Inc. Chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. (as collective units of members) are the lifeline of the organization and therefore must function with utmost effectiveness in performing various services for the community and personal development. The chapter officers serve the brotherhood in leadership roles developing a strategic plan to implement national programs, regional, district, and local chapter projects (Chapter and Officer Development, 2007). An important requirement of a successful chapter is a well-qualified and dependable set of officers. With capable leaders, the business will be conducted in accepted parliamentary fashion. Additionally, the minutes and financial records of the chapter will be well organized and well kept, publicity of the right type will be forthcoming, and an effective program of activities in which all members participate will be maintained, and every member will be interested (Chapter and Officer Development, 2007).
Vision & Broader Fraternal Objectives
The objectives of this Fraternity shall be: to stimulate the ambition of its members; to prepare them for the greatest usefulness in the causes of humanity, freedom, and dignity of the individual; to encourage the highest and noblest form of manhood; and to aid down-trodden humanity in its efforts to achieve higher social, economic and intellectual status (Constitution and By-Laws of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc, 2007; Chapter and Officer Development, 2007).
Mission & General Purpose
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. develops leaders, promotes brotherhood and academic excellence, while providing service and advocacy for our communities (Chapter and Officer Development, 2007). In so doing the Florida Federation of Alpha Chapters, Inc., shall adopt the general spirit of advantage of chapter development and excellence in programming and evaluation in AUF. Additionally, AUF will provide education to the membership of the Florida Federation of Alpha Chapters, Inc.
Florida Training System Overview Organizational Description of AUF Training System Team
The Alpha University of Florida (AUF) Training System Team (FTS) shall be made up of a diverse cadre of brothers within the District of Florida who will train, educate, and assist brothers, chapters, and the District in realizing the benefits of expanding, enriching, and enhancing its knowledge base and reach within the organization. The AUF-FTS will utilize onsite training when and where appropriate at meetings, conferences, and other face-to-face opportunities. More importantly, in keeping with changing and advancing technology and limited opportunities for face-to-face disclosure, the AUF-FTS will employ the use of distance learning through web/and conferencing as a means to reach as many brothers throughout the course of the year. Schedules of training opportunities will be posted annually.

The Alpha University of Florida shall be comprised of the academic units required to carry out the mission and goals of the Florida Federation of Alpha Chapters, Inc.
Organizational Description of each College of AUF
Each college and its description are presented along with the type of courses that will be offered through the AUF. Courses with an asterisk (*) will denote required courses for members in order to either hold office, conduct intake, or for chapters to participate in various activities of the Florida Federation of Alpha Chapters, Inc as mandated or required by the District Director and President of AUF.
College of Officer Development & Leadership
“Cultivating true leaders and establishing a powerful impact in principle and practice.”
The College of Officer Development & Leadership is designed to engage new and continuing members in realistic and powerful training regarding their respective elected roles. Meaningful opportunities to better understand what key positions mean in terms of their personal, professional and chapter impact will be stressed under this college through the courses offered. General officer development is important to the strength of the chapter on the overall leadership of the Florida District. An individual focus will be placed on select positions as well in order to provide a more comprehensive training program and course offerings.
College of Chapter Management
“Ensuring professional and efficient organizational management.”
The College of Chapter Management is designed to provide key strategies and techniques on how to enhance the overall management of chapters in the Florida District. Additionally, the College of Chapter Management shall encourage greater planning, imaging, and evaluation of chapter efficiency. A greater understanding of the importance of member preparation, leadership, reporting, and guidance are all key elements in the overall chapter management arena.
College of Risk Management & Protocol
“No good deed goes unpunished, so planning, protocols, and the reduction of risk must be central.”
The College of Risk Management and Protocols is designed to train and promote the standing Orders, the Constitution, and the roles and responsibilities associated with pre-intake, intake, and post-intake. This college is the cornerstone of membership expansion, treatment, protocols, reporting, and the role of chapters and brothers in this National process.
College of Chapter Relations
“First impressions can be lasting but they don’t have to be.”
The College of Chapter Relations focuses on the public relations or image projected by your chapter and the brothers in your chapter. This college focuses primarily on imaging, enhancing public relations, and the projection of positive public perception.
College of Advisement and Leadership Development
“We must lead by example.”
The College of Advisement and Leadership Development is specifically designed to educate, train, and prepare brothers to take on the critical role of chapter advisor within the District of Florida.
College of Strategic Planning and Information
“We must plan to succeed or plan to fail.”
The College of Strategic Planning and Information is designed to provide the brotherhood with long-term strategic planning using a strategic prevention framework (SPF) consisting of assessment, capacity building, planning, implementation, evaluation, so as to build sustainability and cultural competence within our chapters, the district, and throughout Alpha.
